Teachers day

I did not wish any one a happy teachers day because that would be too customary and just customary without any sincerity.

On one hand we call teachers names and on the other hand we say we respect them.

On one hand we ask for 1000% tolerance, non-violence even to a very minimum extent to correct a mistake committed by student from teachers and on the other hand we fail to teach morals to children at home and give them unlimited freedom and worst level of pampering. This western style is going to be a disaster.

I have called my professors names. I have called them "karapallan" (one with stained tooth), "gopuram" (one with step hairs), "sotta" (one with bald head) and so on.

Had teacher abuse been a cultural thing in India? Meaning, have we had continuous history of students making fun of their teachers in epics and history?

I once asked my 75 years old uncle if they abused their teachers in their time? He said, "students strength itself was very low and who came to school revered the teachers." I asked, "were there any exceptional teacher abusers?" He said, "very rare, very rare. Respect to teachers was high during our time. We would get down from cycle if we saw a teacher coming in front of us."

I asked my father the same question during his days. He said, "I was a naughty student. I would skip classes, I would not do home works, I would sleep in the class, I would go wearing pant instead of half pants, quite naught, quite naughty.... But I never called my teachers as avan, ivan (without respect)." "Were there any exceptions?" I asked. "There were few who did. But it was never a general practice."

I pondered over it and felt that movies did the disaster. On one point in time there were many movies where college students would disrespect their teachers in various forms and degrees.

I request all to discourage any form of disrespect to teachers. Let's all understand how low we have gone as a society which once celebrated teachers next to mother and father and even before God. If we feel we did a mistake by disrespecting, let's all apologize from bottom of our heart. Until we discourage disrespecting of teachers and take a vow to not do it anymore, teachers day wishes will remain for-name-sake and insincere.

Just my thought.
